What this site knows about you
Almost nothing, and nothing it could sell. Last updated Oct 18, 2026.
Who is responsible
The data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is Ares Spina, Mirabello Sannitico (CB), Italy, who publishes Herald of AI. Write to contact@heraldofai.com about anything on this page.
Reading the site
There is no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixel and no social media widget, and the site sets no cookies, so there is no consent banner: under the ePrivacy rules one is needed only for cookies and trackers that are not strictly necessary, and there are none. The fonts and the pictures are served by this site itself, so reading a page contacts nobody else.
The pages are delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages), which, like any web host, has to receive your IP
address, the page asked for, the time and the browser's own description of itself in order to send the page back and
to keep attacks off the site. Cloudflare does this on our behalf as a processor, under its data processing addendum,
and keeps those records for a short time under its own policy. Cloudflare is a US company certified under the EU-US
Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as giving adequate protection. The legal basis is our
legitimate interest in running a working and safe website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use these records to
build a profile of anybody. If Cloudflare's protection against automated traffic is ever set off by a visit, it may
place a single security cookie (__cf_bm, deleted after 30 minutes) to tell people from robots: that is
strictly necessary to keep the site up, so it needs no consent, and it is never used to follow you.
Your browser keeps one small thing for this site, on your own device, and never sends it anywhere: whether you chose the light or the dark theme. It exists only because you asked for what it remembers, which is why it needs no consent (Article 122 of the Italian privacy code, Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy directive).
Videos from other platforms
Some stories carry a video or a post from YouTube, TikTok or Instagram. It appears as a box of ours, and nothing is requested from that platform until you press it. Once you do, the platform receives your visit like any visit to its own site, under its own privacy policy, and may set its own cookies. Links to other sites work the same way: once you follow one, that site's rules apply.
The chat
The chat, Ask the Herald, is not available on this site at the moment, so nothing you do here is sent to an AI provider. If it comes back, this page will say where your messages go before you can write one.
Writing to us
If you email us, we keep your message and address only as long as it takes to deal with it — a correction, a request to remove a picture, a question — and no longer than twelve months afterwards, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
People in the news
Stories name people for what they do in public: researchers, founders, artists, officials. That is journalism, for which the GDPR (Article 85) and the Italian privacy code (Article 136 and the journalists' code of conduct) allow personal data to be published without consent, as long as it is relevant to the story. If you are in a story or a picture here and believe it is wrong, out of date or not relevant to you, write and it will be looked at quickly; a picture of a person who would rather not appear is taken down.
Our social media pages
When you visit or interact with our profiles on Instagram or X, those platforms process your data under their own policies. For the statistics Instagram shows page owners, Meta and the page owner are joint controllers under Meta's Page Insights addendum; we only ever see totals, never who you are.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a portable form and withdraw a consent you gave, by writing to contact@heraldofai.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Italy that is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali. Nothing here makes automated decisions about you, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
